How would knowing the day of his death help David in Psalm 39:4-5?

Psalms 39:1 - 13

ESV - 1 I said, "I will guard my ways, that I may not sin with my tongue; I will guard my mouth with a muzzle, so long as the wicked are in my presence. 2 I was mute and silent; I held my peace to no avail, and my distress grew worse.

I would say that David was not wanting to know the specific date on which he would die just as a piece of information, but instead was asking God to keep him mindful of his mortality and of the relative brevity of his lifespan (however long it might be) in the context of eternity in order 1) to keep him from becoming prideful; 2) to give him a sense of urgency about doing the work that God wanted him to do; and also 3) to allow him to have patience in bearing whatever adversity God might allow to befall him during his earthly existence.
