The absolute biggest problem in Christendom today is legalism. Legalists, like the Pharisees of Jesus' time, want us to follow rules, like the 10 commandments, instead of following Jesus by loving the Lord with all your heart, soul, etc. And loving each other as we love ourselves.
Legalists use words like 'should' and ought to' and 'need to' and every one of those is about what _you do rather than what Jesus has already done.
Just as sin came from one man, Adam, so salvation comes from one man, Jesus, who fulfilled (completed, finished) the law because He was the only one who could. He did that so we wouldn't have to try anymore.
By learning about and believing what God has already done for us we can live a grace filled life unburdened by laws that cause us to sin more. Romans 5:20, "the Law came in so that the transgression (sin) would _increase."
Romans 6:11-14 says we are dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus.
Verse 14 states sin no longer controls us because we are not under the _law but under _grace.
Learn to walk in grace with Jesus with the guidance of the Holy Spirit by reading and understanding what the Bible really says. As we grow in the knowledge of how much God loves us and the abundance of grace He has given us we can't help but love Him more and by that,.love those around us more.
Rely on what the Bible says about what and who we are in Christ Jesus (objective truth) and not on what our emotions tell us (subjective beliefs) we are.
People will live their lives based on what they believe about themselves so if we believe we are sinners we will act that way _but, if we embrace the objective truth of what the Bible says we are, we will live the lives God planned for us before we were born, walking in Jesus' footsteps and sharing His Gospel with others in the love of the Lord.
