I'm wrestling with the idea of every family in the wilderness (upwards of 2 million) sacrificing animals daily. Early in Leviticus, the people are directed to offer their best male lamb (or goat), with the owner himself performing the kill ...not the priest. The book also states that a priest should be stationed at the gate at all times ...even at night.
Numbers 28:1 - 29:40
ESV - 1 The Lord spoke to Moses, saying. 2 "Command the people of Israel and say to them, 'My offering, my food for my food offerings, my pleasing aroma, you shall be careful to offer to me at its appointed time.'
