First you have to look at the two gospels even tho it speaks of it in all three because its a riddle to figure out. Mat. 24:15 says when you see the abomination of desolation spoken of by Daniel the prophet, stand in the holy place, (whoso readeth, let him understand)- Mark 13:14 says But when ye shall see the abomination of desolation, spoken of by Daniel the prophet stand where it ought not, (let him that readeth understand,)..., Dan. 9:27, 11:31, and 12:11 along wit Lk. 21:20 makes it clear that whatever is set up will cause war desolations or fighting. Now the riddle has to be solved to figure out what is going on. Well lets look at the temple itself without the court. The temple has three parts to it. The Alter, the Holy Place and the Holy of Holies, notice there are three parts to the temple. Right between the alter and the holy of holies there is something set up on the Holy place. With the whole temple itself destroyed and the Holy place will be occupied by something set up which would naturally be an abomination. The whole temple mount or court itself was created for the habitation of God himself and for his people to offer sacrifices for there sins and worship. With the temple itself destroyed that would put an end to sacrifices however, Jesus Christ was the lamb slain for the sins of the whole world and there is no more need for sacrifices anyways (Hebrews 8, 9, and 10). Take a look at the temple mount today. Is there something standing there where it ought not?
