If one would come into the presence of the current Pope and refer him as brother. How would it be taken?

Matthew 23:6 - 12

NIV - 6 They love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues. 7 They love to be greeted with respect in the marketplaces and to be called 'Rabbi' by others.

Many of us for years have heard "put on your Sunday best and wear a coat and tie or your best dress." Is that what is being said here? Jesus said here that the Rabbi just wanted to be seen. Is it about outward appearances? Culturally we don't have cloaks to wear to church like they did hundreds of years ago. So why does the church set a standard for what people wear? Does Jesus care what people wear or would he say come one come all and tell people to come messed up not dressed up?
