Many of us for years have heard "put on your Sunday best and wear a coat and tie or your best dress." Is that what is being said here? Jesus said here that the Rabbi just wanted to be seen. Is it about outward appearances? Culturally we don't have cloaks to wear to church like they did hundreds of years ago. So why does the church set a standard for what people wear? Does Jesus care what people wear or would he say come one come all and tell people to come messed up not dressed up?
