I need to know what John 1:28 symbolizes, and what it actually means.
John 21:18
ESV - 18 Truly, truly, I say to you, when you were young, you used to dress yourself and walk wherever you wanted, but when you are old, you will stretch out your hands, and another will dress you and carry you where you do not want to go.

The cost of salvation can be more than the disciples could understand at that time. Jesus just continues to provide understanding and surely is prophetic at the same time. Wayne Collins
I do understand this scripture as a personal prophetic message from Jesus to Peter, however, today in my time with the Lord I have been struggling with a family situation in which my 87 year old brother has, in the course of the last month, gone from living as a widower in his own home to having a health emergency that caused the family to step in and have him removed to a hospital. He never went home again and is now in a permanent care facility where he is physically dependent for dressing and moving about. His affairs are in the hands of others and I live in another state and can't even reach him. In my sadness this verse came to mind, and I can't help but apply it to truth that many people experience the loss of their independence in their old age. I thank the Lord that Jesus has promised, "I will never leave you nor forsake you." Hebrews 13:5
